The Alan Gilzean display at the Red House Hotel.

Andrew Considine in action in Bosnia last Thursday night. ALAN GILZEAN is heading home tomorrow night.

The man who became a legendary striker with Dundee, Spurs and Scotland will be back in his native Coupar Angus for a dinner at the Red House Hotel.

That offers him the chance to see for the first time a montage of memorabilia on display at the establishment.

There’s a collection of strips from Dens Park, White Hart Lane and the traditional redand- black of Coupar Angus Juniors, where it all started for Gilzean (left) in the mid-1950s. Also on show is his SFA blazer, in the dark blue of his country, which

he served with such distinction 22 times, scoring 12 goals, and there’s no doubting his Scotland highlight.

On April 11, 1964, Gilzean climbed highest to head in Davie Wilson’s corner and secure victory over England in front of 133,245.

That goal helped secure his £ 72,500 move to Tottenham in December that year, where he would add FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup medals to the Championship badge won with Dundee in 1962.

But it all began with his local junior side at Foxhall Park, Coupar Angus, where he earned the nickname “Peenie”, so called for his ability to land a long, raking pass on the head of a pin!
