From playing their football, says Mcginn

-

“There was another bad one on Boylie and you could hear it all round the stand.

“I suppose teams are fighting for their lives and will do whatever they can to win. Obviously we’d rather not receive it but we have to deal with it.

“It is up to us to try and avoid that and just focus on our own game.”

The next game Mcginn will be focusing on is Scotland’s clash with Costa Rica on Friday night.

He was one of two Hibs players named in the squad, along with midfield partner Dylan Mcgeouch.

The luckless Mcgeouch is touch and go to take part after missing the Saints’ clash with a thigh strain.

But Mcginn is hopeful his team- mate makes it – and stakes his claim for a place in a Scotland midfield rich in both talent and numbers.

“I still look for the announcement of the squad and get a buzz seeing my name there,” he said.

“But there’s so many good Scottish midfielders that you are always wary and kept on your toes, especially with a new manager coming in. You never know what he fancies.

“I don’t know what is happening with Dylan. He missed the game with a wee niggle.

“He thoroughly deserved his call- up and I’m keeping everything crossed for him. Hopefully he will be ok and I will see him when the squad gets together.

“But if not I’m sure it won’t be his last call- up and he’ll be back fit for Hibs as well.

“Scott Brown is a massive loss for the country and everyone knows that, but midfield is a strong area for us.

“The manager is spoilt for choice in there but everyone is looking for a jersey and keeping it. “If only we could play a 1-8-1!” Meanwhile, Saints striker Chris Kane, whose Fr i day night goal was his sixth since returning from a loan spell at Queen of the South in January, hailed gaffer Tommy Wright for keeping the faith.

“Being at Queen of the South was important for me. It gave me the confidence I needed,” said Kane.

“I didn’t have the best start there, but I got into it and started playing 90 minutes, which is what I went down there to do.

“That got my confidence up and then the goals started coming.

“That got me in a positive frame of mind to come back here and I think it is showing – I actually feel confident.

“I have to thank the gaffer a lot because I think he’s starting to trust in me more.

“I’m there, I just have to keep myself fit, and if he keeps picking me I’m going to be happy.”
