£2,500 gas refund for customer

-

Gethin Chamberlain has just received a whopping £2,500 refund from his gas supplier – thanks to Raw Deal.

He had been tearing his hair out for more than a year after he kept getting eye-watering bills from Ovo Energy for his house in Selkirk, in the Borders.

In the hot, summer months, he would get gas bills of more than £400 and the meter even seemed to produce bills when it was disconnected. No amount of pointing this out to Ovo seemed to make any difference.

“I kept getting fobbed off with the nonsense explanation that they had previously underestimated my usage and so that’s why the bill was so high,” Gethin said. “I spent hours on the phone to Ovo, and yet more time sending them emails.

“My daily bills were more than an average household’s monthly usage – even when I happened to be on holiday and the gas was switched off.

“It was as if I had a magic meter.

“An engineer who came out said there is a known fault with the type of meter I had. He said it runs too fast and it can also record higher rates of consumption than you are actually using.”

Gethin contacted Raw Deal about the issue and we asked Ovo to investigate.

It has taken a few months but the energy firm has finally agreed that there was a fault with the meter and have settled with Gethin.

“I am now £2,500 up on the deal – because that’s how much I overpaid,” he said.

“It has been a long battle but thankfully it has finally been resolved.”
