Fighter jet crash in US

The world’s most expensive fighter jet has crashed for the first time.

The US military said an F-35 came down in South Carolina, although it did not specify when the crash happened.

The pilot ejected and there were no injuries.

Authorities say an investigation into the cause of the crash is under way.

The F-35 is the largest and most expensive weapons programme of its type in the world – the aircraft that crashed cost around £77 million.
