Boss running out of patience with Well stars

- By Mark Guidi sport@sundaypost.com

Stephen Robinson reckons his team is lacking in confidence but is not ready to show them any sympathy.

Indeed, the fed-up Motherwell boss is ready to wield the axe against Livingston on Saturday.

Robinson was angry with a few of his men for failing to get the basics right, saying they failed to track runners and lacked concentration in the 3-1 defeat at Kilmarnock.

That made him more ill at ease than Curtis Main’s missed penalty in the 22nd minute, Jamie Macdonald saving the spot kick when the Lanarkshire side had the chance to go two up. Robinson said: “We are winning 1-0 but I’m not going to nail Curtis for missing the penalty. But it did give them the momentum.

“What is every bit as bad for me is that when players drop runners, as was the case for the second and third goals.

“It’s not good enough. I accept players make mistakes because they are human but there is a manner and you must get the basics right.

“People have been telling me which players to play but I’ve been too loyal to some.

“I will be making changes for our next games because he next two or three games could shape our season.

“We are lacking confidence and that’s what happens when you are not winning games. You can see the confidence draining out of us.

“But we have played the top five sides from last season in our first seven games of the season so we can look at that and so what we can do in the next few games.

”It’s just about finding a right moment or two and then building on it. It will be about more hard work on the training ground and getting it right. That’s the way to get out of this.”
