Sir KENNY ON...

- Jim brogan

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of my former Celtic teammate, Jim Brogan. He had been battling dementia for the best part of a decade and was taken from his family aged just 74.

I was extremely fond of Jim, and he was very kind to me when I arrived at Celtic Park.

I was just a young boy and Jim used to make me feel very welcome.

He’d invite me out for games of golf at the Cathcart Castle course, and he used to give me plenty of shots as I claimed I hadn’t played the game very often! On the park, he was a talented footballer and was rated very highly by Jock Stein.

He played in the 1970 European Cup Final against Feyenoord, was part of the nine-in-a-row titles success and also played for Scotland.

He was also a very humble person, and never looked for headlines or pats on the back.

He just got on with his job, and he was extremely effective at it.

Looking back, Jim was another one of the many reasons why I was so fortunate to be at Celtic as a teenager, and learning my trade from good men and good professionals. My thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
