This Dark Claret Peter Sedge comes from the vice of world-class tyer, Davie Mcphail, from Ayr, and is his terrific variation on the old classic Green Peter pattern.

It is tied on a size 12-14 Fulling Mill all-purpose medium hook, using UNI 8/0 wine thread. There is a tag of dark-red seal’s fur, followed by a body of dark-claret seal’s fur, palmered with a furnace cocksaddle hackle and ribbed with fine gold oval tinsel. The wing is roe deer and the head hackle is furnace cock saddle hackle. You can watch the master tie this on Youtube.

The Falcon FFC braved the heavy rain and strong winds at Braco’s Orchill Trout Fishery and had a good outing, taking 39 fish weighing 109lb.

Jim Russell had the heaviest basket with four fish for 14lb 8oz on an Ally. There were some hefty specimens taken at East Lothian’s Markle Fishery. John Thomson (East Linton) took a fine 10lb rainbow on an Egg Fly. Jack Hay (Haddington) caught and released a magnificent brownie of 9lb 8oz on a Montana and Gordon Dagg, from Pathead, had five on a Black & Green Rabbit.
