Filming over, now it’s Take Two for Gerrard
Steven Gerrard was happy with the movie that told the story of his playing career.
Now he’s determined to write a successful script about life as a manager, even if it doesn’t make it to the big screen. Gerrard attended the gala screening of ‘Make Us Dream’ during the international break.
He doesn’t regret being involved with the documentary, but is keen to keep forging ahead with life in football.
“I’m glad the stuff I had to do for the documentary is out of the way,” he said. “I had a busy few days with it.
“I only made the documentary for one reason, and that was the people who asked me to do it.
“I’d watched the Amy Winehouse and Ayrton Senna documentaries they did, and they’ve gone on to win an Oscar.
“So I was fascinated to see what they could do. I didn’t even know there was a story there! “They’ve done a fantastic job, but it’s time to move on now.
“It draws a line under my playing career. “I couldn’t control when the film was going to finish because it’s been going on for a while.
“Now it’s out there, my job’s done. I enjoyed bits of doing it – the good bits. “But that was about me as a player. Now I have to go to try to make a name for myself as a manager.
“I’ve done nothing as a manager so far. It’s over to me, it’s the beginning of a new journey.
“I’m really enjoying it so far. It’s certainly a lot more difficult than being a player. It’s more time consuming, that’s for sure.”
Will there be a sequel called ‘Gerrard The Manager’?
“I don’t know about that,” replied the 38-yearold. “It’s not about that for me here.
“It’s about bringing success back to Rangers after such a long time without it. What we do every day is about trying to give that back to the supporters.
“This is a very similar club to Liverpool in terms of passion, the demands and expectations. That’s what I missed when I stopped playing.
“So to have that back is fantastic from my point of view. But I’m here to make the supporters happy, that’s a manager’s job. “That’s the plan and the challenge for me.” Gerrard is already looking ahead to the January transfer window.
He said: “We’ll talk about some players going out and possibly benefiting from a loan move. “We have some meetings pencilled in for the middle of December “I won’t mention any individuals, but it will be younger lads.
“Additions to the squad in January won’t be radical. It will probably be one, maybe two.
“It will be quality rather than quantity.”
