Scottish Ballet’s Cinderella
Festival Theatre, Edinburgh, Sat, until Dec 30
Returning by popular demand, artistic director Christopher Hampton’s take on the classic tale has been acclaimed since he first devised it for the Royal New Zealand Ballet in 2007.
We meet Cinderella at the saddest of times, taken for granted by her wicked stepmother and two nasty stepsisters. Soon, her Fairy Godmother is casting spells of dressmaker spiders, magical roses and a special glass slipper. Prokofiev’s melodic score, performed live by the Scottish Ballet Orchestra, adds to the magic.
