No applicants for teacher jobs in Fife

-

One fifth of teaching jobs advertised in Fife attracted no applicants at all.

The council finds it particularly difficult to attract home economics, maths, music, drama and English teachers.

Other jobs that are “regularly unfilled” include home carer, school crossing patrol officer, care assistant, catering and cleaning posts, and childcare practitioner. Sharon Mckenzie, head of human resources, said: “Around 20% of teaching adverts attracted zero applications in 2017/2018.

“Part-time, entry level posts attract a low number of applications.”

She added that sometimes candidates don’t even arrive for their job interviews or reject the offer of a position.
