In your article about concerns over the welfare of cleaner fish at salmon farms in Scotland, the Scottish Government claimed the fish “are protected by the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006”.

I was one of those who successfully lobbied to have fish included in the 2006 Act. However, since the law came into force I have been totally unsuccessful in my efforts to have that Act used to protect fish in fish farms. Any law that is not enforced by the authorities is not worth the paper it is printed on.
