League 1

airdrieonians 0 arbroath 1 The home side entertained runaway league leaders Arbroath looking to end their unbeaten run.

Airdrie matched the visitors in the opening period of the first half and had a great chance to break the deadlock in 22 minutes when a quick free-kick sent Dale Carrick in behind their opposition defence, but his shot saw goalkeeper Darren Jamieson pull off a fine save to see the score line remain unchanged.

Five minutes later, the Red Lichties took the lead when Gavin Swankie had space on the right to deliver a cross and Ricky Little rose to head into the net. With 32 minutes on the clock, an awkward cross into the box by Dean Cairns was deflected into Kieran Millar’s path and his volley was turned away for a corner by Jamieson.

As both sides made changes early in the second half, Josh Edwards went close to an equalising goal in 51 minutes when his powerful effort from inside the box hit the post with keeper well beaten.

Airdrie tried to get back in the match, but got little from the referee as the match wore on and Dick Campbell’s side were able to see out the match with the one-goal advantage.
