For the first time, the 12 individuals in contention for the SPOTY award will be revealed on the night. Although we don’t know who has been nominated, we can still take a punt on the main contenders.

With England making it to the semi-finals of the World Cup, captain Harry Kane is bound to be in the shake-up, as is cyclist Geraint Thomas, the first Welshman to triumph at the Tour de France.

Other notables likely to receive support are Lewis Hamilton, Anthony Joshua and Lizzy Yarnold.
