Edinburgh stroll to reign supreme over the Kings

-

Muir made a stunning start to the year by hammering their capital rivals.

The Meggetland men bagged a haul of 11 tries, four of which were claimed by hooker Johnny Matthews. Gavin Parker was also in great form with the boot, landing nine conversions.

Currie survived a powerful Hawks recovery to boost their hopes of reaching the title play-offs.

The visitors threatened to run away with it as they opened up a 32-13 interval lead, but the hosts battled back to salvage two bonus points.

Ben Robbins went over for the score that clinched the glory for the Malleny Park side.

They created another superb score almost immediately with Darcy Graham dashing over in the corner at the end of another slick handling move. And again Hickey found the target from wide on the right.

Even better was to come from Edinburgh – and Graham in particular – as he completed his double to widen the gap to 19 after 11 minutes.

The shell-shocked Kings shook off their slumbers and began to show some attacking flare of their own.

But they couldn’t penetrate the well-drilled home defence in the build up to the interval.

And the capital outfit upped the pace to snatch the bonus-point touchdown through prop Rory Sutherland in stoppage time – goaled by Hickey.

The trend continued after the restart and Simon Berghan ploughed over for No5.

And the rout was rounded off by Cammy Fenton.
