D-DAY OVER WATSON INJURY WORRY FOR TOONY

-

Hamish Watson will find out today if his big-stage injury jinx has struck again.

The flanker was taken off with a suspected broken hand during Edinburgh’s stunning Euro triumph over Montpellier at Murrayfield.

Scans will determine how much of the Six Nations campaign he will miss.

Watson was absent for last summer’s Test tour to north and south America.

It would be a huge blow to Scots supremo Gregor Townsend if he was ruled out beyond the tournament opener against Italy on home turf a week on Saturday. Meanwhile, Gunners try star Darcy Graham hailed the patient approach of the capital crackers in the 19-10 success that ensured a home Champions Cup clash. The young winger’s score proved crucial, and he said: “We are chuffed to bits.

“My try was all down to patience close to the Montpellier line.

“The forwards kept calm, kept the ball and sucked in the defenders – which created a hole for me to go through. “The big guys actually made it very easy for me.”

Boss Richard Cockerill also heaped praise on Graham, who boosted his chances of figuring in Townsend’s plans for the Italy showdown.

Cockerill declared: “‘Darcy is Darcy and he is awesome. “He has got the biggest heart in the team and he works really hard.

“I have a lot of time for him and I’m delighted he got the try that helped us qualify.”

Edinburgh now turn their focus to Saturday’s crucial Pro14 away encounter with the Southern Kings.

Cockerill is likely to rest the bulk of his frontline stars.
