Decision on Brown’s future ‘fairly soon’
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is looking for a decision from Scott Brown on his future following a “private chat” between the pair.
The 33-year-old Hoops skipper is wanted by Australian A-league outfit Western Melbourne who, having tabled him a lucrative three-year deal, have described themselves as “pretty confident” of landing their target.
Rodgers, though, last night said he remains “very hopeful” that will not be the case.
“I had a long chat with Scott in the week, which obviously remain private,” he said.
“I think he knows that, at some point fairly soon, he’ll have to make a decision, and he wants to make a decision, to be fair.
“There has been a lot going on for him. It is important for him in his football life that he finds that stability.
“Of course he loves it here, and has been here for a long time.
“And we’ve given him time, as a club, to make the best decision for him and his family.
“I would think in the near future he will have a decision either way.
“Naturally, the respect I have for him and that the club has for him, we want to give him that time.
“It’s finding that focus, then that will allow him to push on for the second part of the season.
“I would think in the near future he will have a decision either way.
“Either way, whatever he’s going to do. But I’d be very hopeful that he would be staying here.”
Meanwhile, loan striker Timothy Weah was ecstatic after marking his Celtic debut with goal.
“When I scored, it was something out of a dream.
“It’s amazing to see that at such a young age,” he said.
“It’s always a good feeling to get that first goal in the books.
“Now I can go into the next game with a lot of confidence.
Last night, Celtic said they had “no comment” to make about the man who invaded the pitch at full time and made for the players and officials before being headed off by stewards.
