Ole says Rash is best striker in the top flight

-

Manchester United caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was full of praise for Marcus Rashford after their 2-1 win over Brighton.

Rashford scored a superb goal to put his side 2-0 up at Old Trafford as United’s perfect start under Solskjaer extended to a seventh game in all competitions. Paul Pogba opened the scoring with a penalty, while Pascal Gross pulled one back for Brighton after the break. When he was asked if he thought Rashford was currently the best centreforward in the division, Solskjaer said: “Harry Kane’s injured so maybe that gives him a better chance to be the best one at the moment.

“At the moment I think he’s playing the best football in his career.”

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez praised unlikely hero Fabian Schar after the defender struck twice to help secure a vital 3-0 victory over Cardiff.

Ayoze Perez wrapped up just a second league win in 10 attempts to lift the Magpies out of the bottom three and Benitez said: “He’s a player who came to help and obviously he’s helping a lot. He knows his ability and then he has a lot of confidence.”

Boss Nuno Espirito Santo admitted he got caught up in the moment after he was dismissed for celebrating Wolves’ late show in their thrilling 4-3 win over Leicester.

Diogo Jota settled a stunning game in injury time when he completed his hattrick to see Nuno race on to the pitch and celebrate with his players.

Jota and Ryan Bennett had fired Wolves into an early 2-0 lead, before Demarai Gray and Conor Coady’s own goal levelled for Leicester.

Jota made it 3-2, but Wes Morgan equalised with three minutes left only for Jota to complete his treble and spark pandemonium at Molineux.

Nuno was then dismissed by referee Chris Kavanagh. He said: “The law is clear. There’s no explanation. After all the situations which passed in the game to finish like that is tremendous happiness for everyone.”

James Ward-prowse’s thunderbolt strike sealed Southampton a 2-1 win over Everton. His fine strike settled a few nerves after a scoreless first-half, before Lucas Digne put through his own net.

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s added time finish set up a tense finale, but Saints held on. Callum Wilson and Josh King were on target as Bournemouth beat West Ham 2-0, while Watford and Burnley drew 0-0.
