BRECHIN CITY 1 DUNDEE 2 Brechin – Trialist (56); Dundee – Mcdaid (42), Cameron (67)

Dundee kicked off their pre-season preparations with a narrow 2-1 victory over Brechin City at Glebe Park.

The Dark Blues dominated the opening stages and were unlucky not to grab the lead in the 32nd minute when a Jordan Mcghee free-kick was tipped on to the post by City’s trialist keeper.

However, the visitors made the breakthrough 10 minutes later. Declan Mcdaid picked up the ball wide on the left before firing a superb drive into the top corner of the net.

The Dee started the second half with a greatly changed side, while City also shuffled their pack – and it was the hosts who grabbed the equaliser 11 minutes in when their trialist striker headed home from close range.

However the visitors regained the advantage in the 67th minute when youngster Lyall Cameron curled home a superb drive from the edge of the box. Max Anderson nearly made it 3-1 soon after, but, although the Dark Blues continued to dominate proceedings, they couldn’t add to their tally.

EAST FIFE 1 DUNDEE UNITED 1

East Fife – Smith (og 18); Dundee Utd – Clark (67)

Dundee United kicked off their pre-season with a hard-earned draw at Bayview.

The visitors started the game well, keeping East Fife penned into their own half. But it was the hosts who opened the scoring, Liam Smith bundling Scott Agnew’s corner past his own keeper.

The goal gave the Fifers a lift, and Chris Duggan saw his angled drive held by Benjamin Siegrist.

United swapped their entire starting XI at the break. But, for all they dominated play, they struggled to break down a well-organised Fife resistance.

It was going to take something special to breach the Fife backline and that’s exactly how United did it. Excellent work between Nicky Clark and Louis Appere saw the young striker square for his partner to slam home.

Arabs boss Robbie Neilson was pleased with his side’s workout. He said: “I thought we played some OK stuff, but were also a bit scrappy at times, which is to be expected.”
