Today can be a day for Perfection

- By Reg Moore SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

Perfection may not be totally accurately-named. But she will get closer to that status should she win today’s listed six- furlong sprint.

David O’meara’s flyer did nothing but improve in his 18 months with John Gosden, winning two handicaps and a listed race.

He was rated 100 when making his debut for O’meara at Lingfield, and is now 105 after winning a fillies listed contest at Pontefract.

And two runs ago, on Goodwood’s easier seven furlongs, Perfection ran 1000 Guineas winner Billesdon Brook close in a Group 3.

York’ s meeting closes with a big- field apprentice’s handicap over a mile- and- a- half, and Irish raider Shamad could be thrown in.

A winner of two of his last three engagements, Shamad has been raised just 4lb, including the Irish/uk handicap formula.

The five- year- old also has the assistance of outstanding 21- year- old Irish apprentice, Oisin Orr. At Fontwell, there was clearly something expected when Glutn for punishment made his debut, wellbacked behind Maria Magdalena at Worcester.

He failed by only a neck at level weights, against the last-time-out winner. That experience will be vital in the juvenile hurdle.

SELECTIONS

NAP – Perfection (York 2.55). (Last week, Hallings Comet. 1st. 5/4). DOUBLE – Shamad (York 5.0).

TREBLE – Glutn forpunishment (Fontwell 2.40).

LATE WIRE

Archimento and Pagero are tough to dismiss, but Twasn’t The Plan had a two-time winner, rated 129, behind when second last time at Worcester.

SELECTION

Twasn’t The Plan (Fontwell 4.20).
