Customer no longer in a spin

- Edited by Russell Blackstock

Ian Jamieson was in a spin when he had a recurring problem with his new washing machine and could get no joy from Currys while trying to have it resolved.

In May, Ian paid £400 for the appliance at the retail giant’s outlet in Inverness.

“After using it several times we noticed it was behaving unusually,” he said. “The vinyl on which it stands was becoming progressively damaged as a result of it trying to move when spinning and once we lifted the machine over the damage it simply moved further into the room.” Ian said a number of attempts to get Currys to fix it were unsuccessful.

Eventually an engineer replaced some components but the machine continued to go walkabout when it was on the spin cycle.

Ian said: “All we wanted was a replacement washing machine that didn’t walk around our utility room.”

After further complaints came to a standstill, Ian wrote to Raw Deal and we asked Currys to investigate. The company quickly swung into action and a replacement machine has now been delivered to Ian’s home in Drumnadrochit.

A spokesperson for Currys said: “We have apologised to Mr and Mrs Jamieson for the inconvenience and delay in getting this resolved.

“We have offered to replace the washing machine as a goodwill gesture, which Mr and Mrs Jamieson have accepted.”

Ian said he was grateful to Raw Deal for stepping in.

“You certainly succeeded where we were unable to do so – thank you very much.”
