Late red card but Rovers stay top

-

Raith maintained their top-of-the-table position after running out victors over Peterhead.

The Fifers took the lead inside 10 minutes, Dylan Tait with a fantastic strike from outside the box that fizzed into the top corner.

The lead lasted only two minutes as Derek Lyle found himself free in the box to poke home.

On 25 minutes, the home men led again when a Grant Anderson cutback found Jamie Gullan, who made no mistake from six yards out. The lead could have been a lot more, but for an inspired performance by Blue Toon keeper Greg Fleming, not least from Regan Hendry’s penalty. Despite David Mckay seeing red with minutes to go, the home men held on.

CLYDE

STRANRAER

Clyde – Goodwillie (53, 59, 84); Stranraer – Elliott (32, 82), Allan (42)

Clyde were reduced to 10 men after only 20 minutes, with Barry Cuddihy’s lunging challenge sending Andy Stirling sprawling as he raced through on goal.

Stranraer scored when Cameron Elliott was on hand to nod Stirling’s cross home from close range. It was 2-0 when Jordan Allan fired a 14-yard shot into the net after his first effort had been blocked.

On the restart, David Goodwillie pulled one back when he lobbed Currie, then he levelled from the spot after being upended by Robertson.

Stranraer thought they’d clinched victory when Elliott headed in his second. But Goodwillie completed his hat-trick with a powerful header.

FALKIRK

DUMBARTON

Telfer (38), Mcmanus (63, 85)

Charlie Telfer delivered Falkirk’s first goal when his shot took a wicked deflection past Sons keeper Conor Brennan shortly before half-time.

Falkirk pushed for No. 2 after the break, and Gary Miller’s cross enabled Declan Mcmanus to nod home a 63rd-minute header. Sub Conor Sammon’s late cut-back led to a second for Mcmanus.

AIRDRIEONIANS 1 FORFAR ATHLETIC 0

Wedderburn (77)

In the 32nd minute, the visitors made loud calls for a handball by Kyle Macdonald after he had blocked a ball towards the Airdrie goal.

In the space of three second-half minutes, the match was won and lost. On 74 minutes, Forfar had a free-kick 25 yards out and Airdrie keeper Hutton made a fine save from Ross Forbes and Murray Mackintosh sent the rebound over.

On 77 minutes, a corner from Dean Hawkshaw picked out skipper Sean Crighton and his header was knocked on by Paul Mckay, with sub Nat Wedderburn sending the ball into the net.

MONTROSE

Milne (35)

EAST FIFE

East Fife missed a gilt-edged chance in 15 minutes when Liam Watt put the ball over an empty goal.

Seconds later, Anton Dowds shot just wide. Back came Montrose and in 32 minutes, Terry Masson just failed to connect in front of goal, but they took the lead soon after as Martin Rennie played in Lewis Milne and he finished well. On the hour, a corner caused panic and home defender Cammy Ballantyne had to head off the line.
