Burke has earned a cap call-up

-

When it comes to international football, age should never be a barrier.

So I’d be right behind Steve Clarke if he decided to choose Chris Burke for his next Scotland squad.

He has been in sparkling form for Kilmarnock, scoring goals and being a real driving force and positive influence.

Yes, he’s 36, and his last cap was nearly six years ago. But he is one of most consistent players in the country right now.

Steve, of course, will know Chris well, in terms of his character and ability, having had him as a player while he was Kilmarnock manager.

Current Rugby Park gaffer, Alex Dyer, is also Steve’s assistant at Scotland. The squad will be announced soon for the Nations League games against Israel and the Czech Republic next month.

If Steve thinks Chris can help the team achieve the desired result, then he will go with him.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Tam Forsyth.

Given the success he had at Rangers, big Tam was rightly regarded as an Ibrox legend. He was a firstclass defender and a fierce competitor.

He gave his all in every game, and it was good to have him as a team-mate in the Scotland set-up. I enjoyed his company when we were on international duty together. We had a nice bond between us, as was the case with most of the Old Firm lads when we met up.

As well as the football, he also enjoyed a game of bowls and I’m sure he was a champion at his local club.

The thoughts of everyone in the Dalglish family are with his family and friends.
