Problems pile up for Celts’ Euro opponents
KR Reykjavik boss Runar Kristinsson admits his side will be rusty when they play Celtic on Tuesday night after seeing two of his stars suffer injuries ahead of the Champions League clash.
The Icelandic league season resumed on Friday after an enforced threeweek break after a Covid-19 spike put their game on hold.
But KR suffered a 2-1 defeat to FH Hafnarfjordur to dent their title hopes in their last game ahead of the trip to Glasgow.
Their task at Parkhead got tougher, too, after injuries to key players, Kristinn Jonsson and Kristjan Floki Finnbogason, who both limped off.
And Kristinsson admitted his side are not at their best ahead of the one-off tie, with training restrictions having been also put in place by the Icelandic Government.
He said: “You could see we were not sharp.
“We lacked any kind of rhythm, and that’s why it was extremely important to get a game under our belts before we play Celtic.
“They’ve made it very difficult to get into shape with the regulations about training.
“There is no contact allowed, and there is also a two-metre rule, so we are not training properly, either.
“Also, it’s very disappointing to lose two players before such a big game.
“We will have to assess both players to see if they are okay.
“We still have players in the squad who can fill in, but it’s obviously not ideal after such a long break.”
