If he keeps this up, Kabamba can be king for Killie

Kilmarnock boss Alex Dy e r believes Nicke Kab amb a can be a scoring star for club and country this season. The 27-year-old hit the winner against St Mirren and has now equalled his Killie goal tally for last season.

He hit the net four times in 12 games last term and that has been achieved in the first nine matches of this campaign.

His form has won the London-born striker recognition from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Dyer said: “He’s had a call up for his national team and h e’s been excellent since he came to this club.

“He works hard for the team and now he’s getting a little bit of a reward by scoring goals. “I hope he can score more regularly and I believe he can.

“If he keeps doing what he’s doing, goals will come as long as we keep creating chances for him. “We still have Eamonn Brophy to come back and Greg Kiltie has also got a goal. It’s not just about him if we can share it out. “If he’s playing up front, we want him to score as many goals as he can and keep us as far up the league as possible.” Dyer also hailed the contribution of comeback man Kiltie. He spent most of last season on loan at Dunfermline, but looks like his finally living up to his promise as a Killie player.

His manager said: “Kiltie had a bad injury and people forget he was out for near enough two years. It takes that long to get back sometimes.

“I hope he can have a good season because he came back fit for preseason and worked hard.

“He’s fit, sharp and has bags of energy.

“He scored last weekend and has made a good contribution to the team in this game.

“He’s definitely like a new signing.

“He was away on loan, has come back refreshed and wants to play for this football club. I’m happy with him.”

After a sticky start to the campaign, Dyer’s men have won three out of their last four games.

Refreshingly, he refused to complain about a touch challenge by St Mirren’ s Joe Shaugnessy on veteran winger Chris Burke.

Dyer clearly believes there’s still room for a meaty challenge here and there – even if the football authorities don’t agree.

He said: “It’s football. Everyone’ s moaning when we make a tackle these days.

“It was a tackle, he got up and we got on with the game.

“The referee’s there to make a decision, he made one and we just move on”
