Callum keeps faith in shotshy strikers

- By Darren Johnstone SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson has refused to press the panic button and is adamant his team are playing better than their points tally suggests.

The Perth side crashed to a third straight loss without scoring as they went down to a 2-0 defeat in West Lothian.

Saints have now dropped to second bottom in the table with s e ve n points from nine games ahead of n e x t we e k e n d’s trip to re i g n i n g champions Celtic.

Even though Lions goalkeeper Robby Mccrorie barely had a save to make, Davidson insists his team are heading in the right direction.

He said: “I’d be concerned if we weren’t creating any chances. That’s the biggest thing for me.

We want our strikers to start hitting a purple patch because our performances over the last six games have been better than the points tally suggests.

“We are getting into those areas and hopefully one of the strikers will hit a purple patch and we’ll get the points we deserve.

“We weren’t as dominant in the game today as we have been in the previous two games.

“But when you come to places like this you have to take your chances.”

Davidson admits his team were left with a mountain to climb following Livingston’s explosive two- goal blitz in the first half.

He added: “You could sum up the game in two minutes. From our corner, we conceded a goal and then 90 seconds later we were 2-0 down.

“It gives ourselves a massive hill to climb. We had a couple of good chances before that.

“The first ten minutes were pretty scrappy but once we went 2- 0 down it was difficult to come back from that.

“You can’t give away two poor goals. Give Livingston credit, they make it very hard for you but the goals could have been avoided for us.”

Davidson, meanwhile, admits new midfielder Craig Bryson will be ready to make his debut against the Bhoys after missing out yesterday.

He added: “Craig was a week too short. He has missed a bulk of training so hopefully next week he’ll be ready.”
