ALBION ROVERS 0 BUCKIE THISTLE 3 Macaskill doubles up to dump Albion

-

Highland League Buckie dumped Albion Rovers out of the Scottish Cup in atrocious conditions at Cliftonhill.

Buckie took full advantage of the wind at their back in the first half to put Ryan Goodfellow under serious pressure.

The goalkeeper was beaten direct from a corner-kick after 21 minutes as Andy Macaskill deceived him in the swirling wind.

Buckie had the ball in the net again six minutes later, but it was ruled out for offside.

Matthew Aitken should have equalised after 33 minutes when he blasted over after Kyle Doherty’s shot was blocked.

Buckie doubled their advantage two minutes from the break through Scott Adams after some poor home defending.

Albion boss Brian Reid made changes in the second half to try to turn the tide, but Buckie’s victory was assured 19 minutes from time when Macaskill was given too much time and space and he took full advantage.

STENHOUSEMUIR 4 PRESTON ATHLETIC 1

The Warriors led on 17 minutes when Greg Spence cut the ball back to Mark Mcguigan, who steered the ball into the net.

It was 2-0 courtesy of Jonathan Tiffoney in the 29th minute when he pinged a wind-assisted shot into the top corner.

Straight from kick-off at the start of the second half, Preston scored when Jonathan Edmond tapped home a Dale Pennycuik cross.

This gave the visitors a lift and a Nathan Stokes shot hit the crossbar in the 66th minute.

The away side were to be hit by a sucker-punch, though, in the 79th minute when Mcguigan slotted home a Botti Biabi cross.

Stenny got their fourth in the 90th minute when Jack Hodge tapped home a rebound.

COWDENBEATH 2 WICK ACADEMY 0

Cowdenbeath’s Fraser Mullen brought out a fine save from Wick keeper Graeme Williamson early on from a 25-yard free-kick.

In 13 minutes, Cowden swept forward and Robbie Buchanan’s 20-yarder went inches wide of Williamson’s right-hand post, but, a minute later, Academy broke up field and Ben Sinclair’s shot from 18 yards landed on the roof of the home net.

In 20 minutes, a Mullen corner was perfect for home skipper Craig Barr, but, from just 10 yards, he headed wide.

Four minutes later, the Blue Brazil’s Gavin Morrison’s raking 20-yarder was superbly fingertipped for a corner by Williamson.

Cowden grabbed the lead in the 37th minute when Barr picked up a loose Wick clearance and hit a 40-yarder high into the net.

Five minutes into the second period, the second goal came. Mullen’s cross from the right was taken away from the keeper by the wind and Kris Renton slid the ball into the net from six yards out.

Wick were not for giving up though and, in 73 minutes, Nicky Hogarth made a fine save from Mark Macadie’s angled 12-yarder.

EDINBURGH CITY 3 CALEDONIAN BRAVES 1

Braves took the lead just three minutes in when Ross Mcneil hammered home into the top corner from outside the box.

Playing into gale-force headwinds, City could have been forgiven for letting the conditions get the better of them, but they duly composed themselves and were level within 15 minutes, Alan Reid unfortunate to turn the ball into his own net from a rifled Josh Campbell cross.

With the wind at their backs, the second half was an altogether more comfortable affair for the hosts.

Robbie Mcintyre had them in front within two minutes of the restart, before Campbell all but clinched it on 66 minutes.

The Capital side spurned a host of chances to extend their lead the rest of the way.

ELGIN CITY 4 CIVIL SERVICE STR 0

Civil Service Strollers were the better team in the first half, with Steven Froude forcing a good save from Tom Mchale and Alieu Faye fluffing a great chance after beating the offside trap.

City made them pay with a goal in their first meaningful attack on 35 minutes, Kane Hester firing home from Conor O’keefe’s feed.

The home side got off to a flying start in the second half when Hester slammed home a Russell Dingwall pass just 45 seconds from kick-off.

The pair combined again seven minutes later for Hester to set up Dingwall to curl home a low shot.

Hester then raced on to a Dingwall pass to fire through the keeper’s legs and wrap up the victory on 71 minutes.

CSS never gave up and Mchale had a brilliant save from Connor Young.
