HOGMANAY ROUND-UP
Comedian Susan Calman
With the usual Hogmanay festivities cancelled this year due to the pandemic, more people than ever will be tuning in to the TV celebrations.
Kicking off proceedings on BBC 1 is The Big New Year’s In, where Paddy Mcguinness will be joined by guests for an hour of music, comedy and a quiz looking back at an extraordinary 12 months. That is followed by Susan Calman’s Not Quite End Of The Year Show on the BBC Scotland channel, and then back on BBC 1 Scotland it’s the final hurrah of Only An Excuse?.
Susan Calman then returns to present the Hogmanay 2020 show, albeit in a slightly different format. While there will be no audience in the building, there will be a virtual crowd enjoying the festivities, and Susan will be joined in the studio by Deacon Blue, Graeme “Grado” Stevely, Amy
Macdonald and Blazin’ Fiddles. Amy Irons will be at Edinburgh Castle to watch the piper playing high on the ramparts.
On STV, following the Billy Connolly farewell, the first Pride Of Scotland Awards takes place. Hosted by Elaine C Smith and Kirsty Gallacher, big names such as the Duchess of Cornwall, Rod Stewart, Andy Murray, Gordon Ramsay, Steven Gerrard, Rita Ora, Sharleen Spiteri, Bear Grylls, Biffy Clyro and Lorraine Kelly will pay tribute to real-life Scottish heroes. There will also be performances from Mcfly, Tom Walker and the Red Hot Chili Pipers, while Billy Connolly will lead a unique rendition of Auld Lang Syne, also featuring Annie Lennox, Alan Cumming, JJ Chalmers and Edith Bowman. On BBC2, on Jools’ Annual Hootenanny, Jools Holland will be joined by special musical guests as well as dipping into the archives, while on Sky One the fireworks will be shown live at midnight. If you prefer a traditional Hogmanay, BBC Alba will have a socially-distanced ceilidh with music from Peat and Diesel, Glenfinnan Ceilidh Band, the trio Sian and ceilidh band Trail West.
