18 more deaths but positive tests fall

Scotland has recorded 18 deaths from coronaviru­s and 525 positive tests in the past 24 hours, the Scottish Government has said.

The total number of deaths – victims who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – now stands at 7,129.

The figures show 201,512 people have now tested positive for Covid-19 in Scotland, up from 200,987 the previous day.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde recorded 151 cases, along with 106 in

Lothian and 89 cases in Lanarkshir­e. The daily test positivity rate is 3.1%, down from 3.3% the previous day.

The World Health Authority regards a positivity rate of less than 5% as indicating the virus is declining.

The latest UK Government data reveals that of the 20,450,858 vaccinatio­n jags given in the United Kingdom so far, 19,682,048 were first doses – a rise of 504,493 on the previous day, while 768,810 were second doses, an increase of 32,773.
