It’s World Book Day on Thursday. What’s the best thing you’ve read?
The Wind In The Willows. In school we were meant to read so many pages every day but I got so engrossed I finished it in two days. I don’t know how many times I’ve read this book. It takes me back to my childhood.
Mary Raeburn
Cathy Come Home. It inspired me to become a housing officer.
Lionel Fardy
Delia Smith’s Cookery Course has been my culinary bible since 1976. Judi Martin
The Famous Five series. I lose myself in these books. Margaret Brown
Wuthering Heights. It was responsible for my move to Yorkshire to teach at a school a stone’s throw away from Bronte Country. Lorna Smith
The Godfather. Read the whole thing in two days. Donnie Arthur
To Kill A Mockingbird. The lessons you learn from it are still as relevant today. Fiona Reid
A short story, Flowers For Algernon. A compelling piece of writing.
Liz Kelly
Little Women. Doesn’t translate as good in film, but still good!
Sandra Peterkin
1984, for George Orwell’s frightening vision of future conditions.
