Brain oil? That’s so bloomin’ silly!

-

Just when I thought I had heard every piece of new-age mumbo jumbo, last week I had to Google “brain octane oil” to find out what new fad I have been missing.

It turns out it’s some kind of souped-up coconut oil (yes, really) but according to Orlando Bloom it’s the best way to start your day.

The Pirates Of The Caribbean actor got some stick last week after sharing his somewhat unusual daily routine with The Sunday Times, and I couldn’t help but laugh at the contrast between his rituals and mine. From “earning his breakfast” to having “a team of people” to make his plant-based dinner, the whole interview was quite amusing. Initially, I thought Mr Bloom was being a little tongue-in-cheek, but now I think he might have just been living in LA for too long.

After all, thanks to alternative healthcare queen Gwyneth Paltrow (warning: her candles are, er, uniquely scented) we know Californians are into strange trends. We expect them to be a little wacky, so it’s no surprise that the 44-year-old isn’t starting his day with a cup of builder’s brew and a fry-up. However, given the choice between a slice of toast and “some green powders”, I know which breakfast I would choose…

It’s one of the most glamorous events of the year, so it should come as no surprise that the producers of the 2021 Oscars have banned the casual attire we’ve all become so used to during lockdown. As well as insisting nominees attend the ceremony in person, rather than via Zoom, the organisers have said the dress code will aim for “a fusion of inspirational and aspirational”

– so sadly there’s no chance of glimpsing A-listers in pyjamas, or jogging bottoms on the red carpet. We’re still in the midst of a pandemic, so I think it’s a little irresponsible to demand all potential winners attend in person. Does a glitzy party really count as essential travel? I can’t imagine many Brits or international actors will make the trip, so it will be interesting to see who ends up taking home the gongs. Will it be a case of no show, no prize?
