A bonus and a pay rise? It’s a lovely thought

£25 STAR LETTER

-

I’ve been working hard, caring for people for 30 years, and it feels like I’ve been working even harder during the last year. I have never, ever earned more than a nurse in the NHS, I haven’t had a pay rise of more than 1.5% in five years and I don’t have a good pension to look forward to.

So good luck to the NHS being given a 4% rise. I’m sure no one would grudge it to those who have been working in Covid wards. Good luck to the rest of them too, but it would be nice if a little luck, or even a little attention, fell on the rest of us. The £500 bonus from the Scottish Government seemed like a stunt and so does this pay rise.

Get a haircut, PM

Someone needs to tell Boris Johnson that messing his hair up and going in front of the cameras like a scarecrow wasn’t that funny before. Now, when he is Prime Minister, and meant to be paying tribute to all the people who have died of Covid and trying to explain what his government did and didn’t do to save them, it looks awful.

If he can’t respect us enough to comb his hair and try to look smart when speaking to us, what worth are we meant to put on his words? Michael Addison, Oban

Rollout’s a triumph

My wife and I had our jags at the Louise Jordan and it was really impressive. The staff were nice and helpful and the whole thing was really well organised. We might have made mistakes during the pandemic, but the vaccine rollout seems like a real success.

A late arrival

I loved your picture of the cheeky little bird on the cherry blossom tree in Japan. It cheered me up and made me think spring was on its way. Then I looked out of my widow and put on my parka, hat and scarf and big boots and I was only taking the recycling out.

No justice for Emma

The Sunday Post should be proud of its campaign to find the killer of Emma Caldwell, especially in light of the recent publicity over the dangers of violence against women and particularly as those who harm women invariably continue committing such crimes.

It’s a national disgrace that no one has ever been brought to justice for this awful crime. Stephen Mccarthy, Glasgow

Kelly’s swell

I really enjoyed the first episode of the new Line Of Duty and thought Kelly Macdonald was terrific.

Once I saw her browsing in John Lewis and smiled at her, thinking she was someone I knew. As soon as I did it I realised who she was and felt stupid but she just gave me a friendly smile back. She seemed a really nice, down-to-earth person. Lorraine Thomson, Bothwell

Fast forward news

Is it just me or is the news on fast forward? One day we’re reading about some huge outrage and the next day another has come along. It’s quite tiring to keep up. Gillian Smeaton, Perth
