EDINBURGH C 2

See (6), Hamilton (23)

(aet, Forfar won 5-3 on penalties)

The visitors got off to a flyer. Ouzy See was the danger man as he tapped home a delicious cross by Callum Crane from close range after just six minutes.

The Citizens’ lead wasn’t to last, though, as a hopeful long ball was flicked on by Jordan Northcott to leave Jordan Allan in a footrace with City keeper Callum Antell. The former Wolves man got there first to head the ball past the onrushing stopper.

City regained their lead in spectacular fashion on 23 minutes. Danny Handling swung in a free-kick, which Lee Hamilton chested into the air. He threw himself into the air to bicyclekick the ball into the bottom corner.

The second half started in a similar pace to the first. See found himself through on goal, but Daniel Hoban did brilliantly to snuff out his shot.

Josh Campbell then fired a ferocious volley on to the post as they looked to kill the tie off.

They should have done so in the 76th minute when substitute Raffaele De Vita had two chances in quick succession, but City failed to capitalise.

Time was running out for Forfar as the final of a barrage of crosses came in. The ball broke for January signing Roberto Nditi, making his first appearance in the Scottish Cup after joining from Bracknell Town, to rifle home a 25-yard volley with the last kick of the game.

Tempers boiled over in extra time as Hamish Thomson flew into a challenge recklessly and was dismissed for his actions, which sparked a mass rammy in the middle of the park.

Penalties were needed to decided who would progress to the round of 16 and the first seven were converted expertly until City substitute Craig Thomson stepped up. His tame penalty was saved by Dan Hoban and up stepped Daniel Scally to blast the Loons into the next round.
