British Academy Film Awards
BBC1, today, 7pm
It’s been described as the most diverse list of nominees ever produced by Bafta. However, there is one notable absentee – Viola Davis’ stunning performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is missing, although the film is represented via a posthumous nod for her co-star Chadwick Boseman.
Of the six best director nominees, an unprecedented four are female – including Nomadland’s Chloe Zhao (above) and Rocks’ Sarah Gavron, whose films have garnered the most nods with seven each. Somebody else expected to do well is the unstoppable David Attenborough, whose programme A Life On Our Planet is up for best doc.
