What’s the story of Band Of Gold by Freda Payne? – A Band Of Gold was written by powerhouse production team Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier and Eddie Holland, under the pseudonym Edythe Wayne due to a dispute with Motown, their erstwhile employers. Ray Parker Jr, who later found fame with the Ghostbusters theme, played lead guitar. Freda, older sister of Supremes singer Scherrie, spent six weeks at No 1 with what went on to become the third biggest-selling single of 1970.
