LEAGUE 2 – SIMON MURRAY HEADS THE CAST IN A LATE
EDINBURGH CITY 2 QUEEN’S PARK 3
Queen’s Park’s relentless charge towards the League 2 title continued as they edged out nearest challengers Edinburgh City to move within touching distance of the championship.
Former Hibs and Dundee United front man Simon Murray was a two-goal hero for visitors with two late counters to secure the three points for the Spiders in a five-goal Ainslie Park thriller.
Visiting defender Peter Grant opened the scoring with a looping header from
Luca Cullen’s free-kick midway through the first period.
However, Edinburgh’s Liam Henderson fired home shortly after the interval to level the scores.
Josh Campbell’s header in 65 minutes from Craig Thomson’s free-kick then put
City in front.
The Spiders’ season-long unbeaten record looked to be in jeopardy until Murray’s headed equaliser from Michael Doyle’s cross 12 minutes from the end.
Murray again headed home in the closing stages to give Queen’s victory.
