Lions fans roar as beer runs dry
The Scottish Rugby Union was under fire from irate rugby fans last night after claims the bars ran out of beer at Murrayfield.
The home of Scottish rugby was hosting the British and Irish Lions in their tour warm-up match against Japan when the taps seemed to run dry.
Just 16,500 fans had been let into the 67,500-capacity stadium in Edinburgh.
Lions fan Tom Lloyd, from London, tweeted: “Over an hour queue pre-game for a beer then 10 minutes into the game the whole stadium has ‘run out of alcohol’.”
The SRU said: “Due to unprecedented pre-match sales, the decision was taken to not open bars at halftime, given the limited availability of stock around the stadium. This was to ensure pre-agreed social distancing guidelines could be maintained and avoid crowding. Bars were scheduled to be closed from the end of half-time.
“The stadium did not run out of beer.”
