Battle road unearthed

Archaeolog­ists excavating a hill thought to have played a crucial role in the Battle of Bannockbur­n have found a lost medieval track used by Robert the Bruce and his army.

A long stretch of road was uncovered yesterday during the first ever dig at Coxet Hill in Stirling.

The hill is believed to be where the Scots king prepared for battle ahead of the first day of fighting in June 1314. Scottish camp members were also based there during the decisive second day,
