Second officer flouted restrictions to join fans’ title celebration

-

A second police officer has been fined for breaching Covid rules by partying with Rangers fans in the streets of Glasgow following the club’s league title trophy day on May 15.

Thousands of fans let off flares, threw missiles at police and fought amongst themselves at a time when people in the city were living under Level 3 Covid rules. Five on-duty officers were injured and 28 people arrested.

Following a Freedom of Information request by the Post, Police Scotland revealed that a 26-year-old off-duty officer, who hasn’t been named, was fined. A 23-yearold off-duty officer was also fined last month. He was named as Ross Fowler after he was identified in a photograph taken at George Square.

Police Scotland said Fowler and the unnamed 26-year-old officer have both been reported to the professional standards department.

The force said it could not reveal the name of the second officer, or their rank, because it would be in breach of General Data Protection Regulation.
