More than a third of us in the UK correct mispronunciation, but does it bother you?

-

The only time I remember correcting anybody’s mispronunciation was when my mother said “fackade” for “facade”. I had just started French at school. She wasn’t pleased.

Liz Kelly

Personally I think it is bad manners to correct, it is better to try and include the word later in the conversation. You have made your point without offending.

Elizabeth O’regan

We all mispronounce words at times. My old mum called a big strong large lady an Amazon once but pronounced it “amazing”. Which was kind of apt!

Sandra Peterkin

Only on my surname. For some reason they take my surname as a Christian name or add a Mac, Mc or O at the front. The Clan Donald is one of the senior clans in Scotland.

Derek Donald

I would never correct anyone, but my husband can’t say chassis. He calls it a car subframe.

Anne Fletcher

Yes, I sometimes do .... but I object more to incorrect punctuation. I even put commas in my texts! It drives my family mad! Joan Fordyce

The word specific is often pronounced as Pacific… Verity Tynan
