LITERARY
Hemingway BBC4, Tuesday, 9pm
He’s considered one of the great American writers, but Ernest Hemingway is also a controversial figure who has been accused of being a woman-hater, among other things.
So, no wonder awardwinning filmmakers Ken Burns and Lynn Novick thought there was enough material in the author’s life and legacy to fill a six-part documentary series. Narrated by Peter Coyote, it charts Hemingway’s own story while also featuring excerpts from his writing, read by Jeff Daniels, Meryl Streep, Keri Russell and Patricia Clarkson, among others.
