Houska plans to pile more misery on the Hoops

FK Jablonec star, David Houska, insists Celtic are beatable when they play them in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The Hoops travel to the Czech Republic to face a side that finished third in their league last season.

Ange Postecoglou’s men are favourites to progress, but international midfielder Houska – who signed in the summer for Jablonec after eight years at Sigma Olomouc – believes his side have a chance.

He said: “Playing against famous clubs like Celtic in European competition is the reason I signed for Jablonec. We seem to play in Europe every year, and I always wanted to try that out.

“I had offers to move abroad, and to other clubs in the Czech Republic, but this draw has shown it was the right decision.

“A few years ago, we played against Sevilla in the Europa League, and gave them a real game at home before losing 1-0. This is comparable to that.

“We have been drawn against a formidable opponent, but everyone at the club feels we have a chance of winning.”

Breidablik captain, Hoskuldur Gunnlaugsson, knows all about Aberdeen’s proud European history. But he’s convinced his Icelandic team-mates can spring another shock this week.

The Dons travel north to face the Kopavogur side in the first leg of their Europa Conference League tie after Stephen Glass’ men knocked out BK Hacken.

Breidablik shocked Austria Vienna in the last round, and the Icelandic international midfielder can’t wait to lock horns with the Dons.

Gunnlaugsson said: “It will be great fun for us to play a team like Aberdeen.

“They have a great history in Europe. Sir Alex Ferguson took them to the top of Europe, and they are now going to soon build a statue of him.

“It will be a tough game for us as they beat Hacken – a very good Swedish team – 5-1 at home.

“We are under no illusions. But we deserved to beat Austria Vienna, and this is a great reward for us.

“We played our plan to perfection against them. We let them have a lot of the ball, and broke on the counter-attack.

“Overall, we were the better team.”

Former Rangers boss, Dick Advocaat, is in talks to become the new Iraq manager – despite turning 74 next month and previously retiring four times.

The Dutchman is set for an ireturn to the international arena, and will meet Iraqi FA officials in Spain this weekend to seal the deal.
