Kelty pick up the plaudits in Fife derby

-

New boys KELTY HEARTS got a dream start in a Fife derby 2-0 success against COWDENBEATH. Ex-patrick player Joe Cardle saw his shot saved on 35 minutes, but, soon after, he got Kelty’s first SPFL goal with a neat shot into the bottom corner of the net. On 69 minutes, Kelty got a second goal when Ross Philp’s shot from 15 yards went high into the net.

STRANRAER made the long trip to ELGIN CITY and drew 1-1. The first goal was against the run of play when City centre-back Darryl Mchardy nodded home from a Tony Dingwall corner midway through the first half. The visitors drew level 10 minutes into the second half, Grant Gallagher getting his head to a Sean Mcintosh cross from the right to beat keeper Daniel Hoban.

Visiting FORFAR beat ANNAN 2-0 and were first to show when Ross Meechan’s shot was stopped by the Annan keeper Greg Fleming on 20 minutes. The opener came on 26 minutes when Stefan Mccluskey was set up by Craig Slater and he shot home from 12 yards. On 43 minutes, Forfar doubled their tally when Matthew Aiken’s pass found Scott Shepherd and he fired low into the bottom corner of the Annan net.

There was little between hosts STENHOUSEMUIR during the first half as they lost 1-0 to STIRLING ALBION. In the second half, Stirling got the only goal in the 72nd minute when Marc Laird got into the danger area before laying the ball on a plate for Martin Mcniff to score from close range.

ALBION ROVERS beat visiting EDINBURGH CITY 2-0, with the game held up for half-an-hour at half-time due to an injury to referee Stewart Luke, which meant the second half going ahead with just one linesman. The hosts made an early breakthrough after Callum Wilson was fouled by Daniel Jardine in the penalty area and Declan Byrne fired the spotkick into the corner. Kyle Doherty grabbed Albion’s second on the counter-attack six minutes from half-time after Wilson had burst clear. Danny Handling wasted a chance to get City back into the game when his 75th-minute penalty was saved by Cammy Binnie after John Robertson was fouled by Alfie Robinson.
