EX-MSP accuses his party of bullying
Former MSP Andy Wightman has accused senior politicians in the Scottish Greens of bullying and threatened to publish a transcript of a private meeting.
He left the party in December 2020, citing intolerance over the debate surrounding transgender and women’s rights.
In a 4,000-word blog post published yesterday, Wightman accused party co-leader Patrick Harvie of making potentially criminal allegations against him during the recent election campaign.
And he claimed party members were circulating potential misinformation about him online.
Wightman said: “I have an audio recording of the SGP (Scottish Green Party) MSP meeting of 10 December 2020 and will not hesitate to publicise a transcript if the party and its office-bearers persist in spreading lies and misinformation about me, my views and my motives.”
Seeking to explain his resignation, he wrote: “I decided to resign from the party for the simple reason that I could not work in an environment with such a censorious, bullying and intimidatory culture.”
The Scottish Greens said: “The Scottish Green Party is proudly trans positive and we make no apology for that. We do not recognise the account of events in Mr Wightman’s missive.”
