Make an exception for Grace

- By Reg Moore sport@sundaypost.com

Backing novice fillies to win under a penalty can be a quick route to the poorhouse. But in Scot’s Grace’s case, an exception is made.

Trained by Belgianborn Kevin Philippart De Foy at Newmarket, she scorched home by four-and-a-half lengths at Kempton last month.

The third horse was beaten eight-and-aquarter lengths in a Class 4 novice and the form has worked out well.

Just two opponents for Sir Michael Stoute’s Mars Landing in the one-mile handicap. But it’s still a tricky little event.

Although Windsor has missed the deluge that soaked other parts of England, the goodto-soft surface is in his favour.

Last year he was third on heavy and a close-up second on good to soft, while his main rival, Ghaly, seems to prefer it quicker.

Lydia Richards has engaged top amateur Simon Walker for her five-year-old City Tour, who carries top weight in a poor contest.

Two winters ago he won off 76 and 79 and has dropped to 72, despite a close-second over shorter at Newbury last time.
