Anderson hopes Youtube helps him to a Brucie bonus

- By Brian Fowlie SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

Bruce Anderson is constantly studying videos to help him become the solo striker that Livingston need.

The 22-year-old will be the West Lothian club’s main goal threat when they entertain Aberdeen this afternoon.

Anderson is excited about facing his former club and hopes to see more of the ball than he did on the opening day of the season.

He covered a lot of ground against Rangers at Ibrox, but was unable to threaten the home goal.

Ploughing a lone furrow is something he knows he’ll have to get used to and is looking for inspiration from some of the best in the business.

He said: “I need to get better at playing as that solo No. 9.

“I look down south at the top strikers and they can all play in a one or two.

“This season, I’m learning to do that every day.

“I look at the likes of Aguero who always played as a one, or Jamie Vardy – these guys aren’t the biggest but they can play on their own.

“I also remember watching Wayne Rooney do it at Manchester United.

“I watch clips of all of them to see if I can take wee bits that will help me do that.

“Most nights I’m watching clips or on Youtube looking at strikers.

“Even back in the day, my dad used to show me clips of Kenny Dalglish.

“Outside of training, everything’s to do with football for me. I watch games from everywhere.

“You have to be a sponge and absorb everything.

“Physically, I’ve been doing a lot more in the gym in the last two months than I’ve done previously in my whole career so far.”

Anderson’s dad, Mike, encouraged his boy to study the game from an early age.

“My dad’s obsessed with football, so since I was young it was always on the TV,” he went on.

“He played at Highland League level with Deveronvale as a centreback, so he knew a bit about the game.

“He always wanted me to work hard, that was massive for me growing up.

“He would take me down to the park and I used to try to get past him.

“I was always with him and training against men when I was eight or nine years old.”

Playing against your former club can be tricky and Anderson is prepared for that.

He said: “I’m not thinking about Aberdeen now.

“I’m a Livingston player and I’m just trying to do the best I can for them

“If you have that mindset of trying to prove a point, you end up not being yourself.

“I am not 100% sure why it didn’t work out at Aberdeen.

“Maybe because the strikers that were always in front of me, like Adam Rooney and Sam Cosgrove, were hitting form.

“I was maybe a bit unlucky but I was still young.

“I just want to improve and score goals, that’s my main objective now.”
