Starto return in Cruella sequel

-

Emma Stone is to return for a sequel to her acclaimed turn in Cruella. The announcement was welcomed following criticism of Disney’s policy of releasing new films straight to its streaming service.

The Oscar-winning actress, 32, starred as Cruella de Vil in the first film, which arrived earlier this year and grossed more than £163 million at the global box office. The simultaneous release of its films in cinemas and on streaming by Disney has been criticised by some and Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson sued the giant over the practice, claiming it cost her potential earnings.

Talent agent Patrick Whitesell, of Stone’s agency Endeavour, said: “This agreement demonstrates that there can be an equitable path forward that protects artists and aligns studios’ interests with talent.”
