Call for volunteers to help save trees
A conservation charity is recruiting volunteers to collect seeds as part of an environmental initiative to help the fight against climate change and the biodiversity crisis.
Woodland Trust Scotland wants the volunteer seed squad to help it repopulate Scotland’s native woodlands.
A pilot project will see seeds gathered from a wide range of trees at 10 collection hubs across Scotland. More generally, the charity wants people who live in or visit a vast swathe of the west of Scotland to collect acorns and hazelnuts to help maintain a steady supply to tree nurseries.
The charity, which cares for over 8000 hectares of land in Scotland, is concerned about a shortage of native tree stock in some areas.
