Forfar and Kelty just can’t be separated

-

FORFAR and KELTY stay locked at the top of League 2 after a pulsating 2-2 draw at Station Park.

The home side struck first when Matty Aitken won a penalty as he was clattered by the Kelty keeper, who mistimed his punch. The former Albion Rovers striker slotted home the spot-kick for his third goal in as many games.

In the 22nd minute, Connor Barron’s cross flicked off the head of player-manager Gary Irvine and found early substitute Nathan Austin. His header from the back post was judged perfectly and nestled in the corner of the net.

On half-time, a Kelty free-kick was blocked on the edge of the Forfar box and the home side quickly burst upfield in two passes, Craig Slater setting up Craig Thomson to slot home.

Kelty levelled again in the 64th minute when a deflected shot found the head of Joe Cardle and he did well to divert towards Austin, who was able to bundle home from close range.

ANNAN beat STIRLING ALBION 3-1, and went ahead on 22 minutes when Chris Johnston fired in a 15-yarder.

A minute later, they were two up when Iain Anderson got a Chris Johnston pass and hit a great shot into the top corner of the net.

In the 73rd minute, the game sprang to life when Kurtis Roberts saw his shot from 12 yards fly into the net to bring Albion back into the game.

Goss sealed the points for Annan five minutes from time when he was set up by Anderson and the sub’s shot went high into the net.

Kane Hester hit a hat-trick as ELGIN beat visiting ALBION ROVERS 3-0.

Hester opened the scoring on 16 minutes, turning on a Euan Spark pass before firing in a shot which took a deflection to go past keeper Cammy Binnie.

Six minutes later, it was 2-0 when Rory Macewan clipped a perfect pass through for Hester to slot home his second.

Early in the second half, Hester burst on to a Brian Cameron ball and coolly guided it past Binnie for a third time to claim his hat-trick.
