It’s time we ripped up the ageist fashion rules and wear what we want

- EDITOR, JAYNE SAVVA JSAVVA@DCTMEDIA.CO.UK

Don’t let your hair grow long. Never wear dresses or skirts above the knee. If you are old enough to remember it the first time round, don’t attempt retro trends. These are just some of the over-40s fashion rules I’ve heard over the years. I’m not sure who made them up, but quite frankly they are nonsense.

At P.S. we aim to debunk these ageist style myths and encourage readers to simply wear what makes them feel good.and luckily we have the perfect fashion expert to provide the kind of advice we know you can trust.

I first met Wendy Rigg 10 years ago when we worked together on women’s magazines in London.as the style editor she had the keys to the fashion cupboard which we would raid on a regular basis for PR events and after work drinks.whenever

I held up an outfit and asked the question all women over the age of 25 are programmed to ask,“can I get away with this?” her answer was always the same:“of course you can!”. She is the reason I have a gold sequin jumpsuit hanging in my wardrobe (and yes, I do still wear it).

Wendy has decades of experience to share and makes the point that at this stage of life no-one knows you better than you know yourself.and at 63, she is a walking advertisement for how age is no barrier to looking fabulous.

On pages 8&9, she shares her wealth of fashion knowledge as well as answering age-old questions such as: Can I wear dungarees? Can I still rock a biker jacket after 50? Can trainers look cool in my 60s?

I’m sure you won’t be surprised by her answers. One more time, repeat after me:yes.you. Can.
