Foreign Secretary says Middle East situation getting much better

-

The world is struggling to comprehend the situation in Afghanistan today, and in 1958, The Post was also reporting on Middle East turmoil.

“Arriving at London Airport from New York yesterday, Mr Selwyn Lloyd said he thought the present situation in the Middle East was much better than when he left to represent Britain at UNO’S emergency session,” read The Post’s front-page update.

“‘The United Nations is always at its best when it is trying to be an instrument of reconciliation,’ said Mr Lloyd. ‘This time I think there was a genuine attempt on the part of almost everybody to get agreement, and we got it.’”
